A very unusual vintage Stratton compact from with hand painted lid and engine turned spiral base. The inner lid is particularly unique as whilst it features the patented 'Compact In Hand' mechanism, the usual logo is not present and there is instead a very pretty floral decoration.
It is possible that this compact was released pre-patent but with the mechanism in place; however it should be noted that it has the spiral base design typical of the 1950's compacts. The catch to the inner lid has the patent number 530653.
Measures 8.9cm across. In very good condition; there are 2 tiny chips to the painted lid, this has not shown up well on the photos but the gold metal base does show through. Light surface wear overall to the exterior. Mirror is very good with a few very small spots. Pattern to front of inner lid is very good, there are marks/discolouration to it's reverse. Original sifter present with a residue of powder in the well.
